Severe Drought Strikes Botswana’s Central Tuli Region

The Central Tuli region in southeastern Botswana is currently experiencing a severe drought, with devastating effects on both the environment and local communities. Months of minimal rainfall have left water sources depleted and transformed the once-thriving landscape into a dry, dusty expanse.

This area, renowned for its rich biodiversity and wide-open savannas, is home to a variety of wildlife, including elephants, lions, antelope, and countless bird species. Due to the lack of water, animals are forced to travel long distances in search of drinking sources—leading to increased tension between species and escalating human-wildlife conflict in nearby communities.

Local farmers are also feeling the impact. Crops are failing, livestock are dying from dehydration and hunger, and food insecurity is rapidly growing. The economic strain on rural households is intensifying, with many struggling to survive.

Timbo Foundation will hope that a lot of rain (Pula) will come in the next months to support the fragile ecosystems of the Central Tuli.
