Our The Central Tuli Region of Botswana, encompassing the Northern Tuli Game Reserve, is characterized by a semi-arid climate with annual rainfall ranging from 300 mm to 350 mm, predominantly during the summer months from November to March.
In recent years, our region has experienced significant rainfall events leading to flash floods.
More notably, in February 2025, a series of heavy rains from the 16th to the 20th led to severe flooding across southern Botswana. The Gaborone Dam reached 105.19% capacity, causing overflow into the Notwane River and flooding nearby areas, including Tlokweng District. This event resulted in at least seven fatalities and displaced over 1,700 residents .
These incidents underscore the vulnerability of the Central Tuli Region to extreme weather. Residents and authorities are advised to remain vigilant and prepared for potential flooding, especially during the rainy season.
